How to find your Hardware ID

Windows 11

  1. Right-click Start and open Device Manager.
  2. Open the affected device’s Properties and read Device status.
  3. Select Details, then Hardware Ids.
  4. Copy the first ID. Avoid Device instance path and serial numbers.

What do the fields mean?

PCI VEN identifies the chip vendor and DEV identifies its device. USB VID and PID serve the same roles. A device ID alone can exist under several vendors.

PCI SUBSYS contains the subsystem device first, followed by its vendor. REV identifies a hardware revision, not a driver version. USB MI identifies an interface of a composite device.

Can this identify the driver I need?

An exact identity is the first step. OEM customization, Windows version and architecture still determine package compatibility. Start with the system or accessory manufacturer; use Windows Update where applicable.
